McDonald’s Finally Brought Its Beloved International Sandwich to the U.S.—and I Tried It First

It’s only made brief appearances on U.S. menus.
Name this sandwich quickly: two all-beef patties on a sesame seed bun with special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and onions. You are knowledgeable about fast food if you correctly identified a Big Mac. What happens if breaded chicken is used in place of those all-beef patties? A Chicken Big Mac is yours.
Don’t worry if you’ve never heard of the Chicken Big Mac. Although it has appeared briefly in a few U.S. restaurants, it has been on McDonald’s menus in other nations. Now, for a little period, the Chicken Big Mac will be available at a McDonald’s near you.
When McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski tasted the Big Mac and the Chicken Big Mac side by side in August, he found that he enjoyed both. Isn’t that surprising? The “crunch that you don’t get with the regular Big Mac,” which results in a different mouthfeel, was one aspect of the chicken version he said he liked.
A breaded chicken sandwich covered in Big Mac sauce sounds delicious, and it is, you must admit. Before it appeared on menus across the country, we tried it, and now you can, too.
McDonald’s Brings the Chicken Big Mac Nationwide
The Chicken Big Mac is finally making its way over the pond after years of being a favorite among U.K. fans and a successful U.S. test in Miami. In February 2022, McDonald’s launched the Chicken Big Mac in the U.K., which sold out in less than two weeks. Mickey D’s then declared in late 2022 that it would introduce the chicken sandwich to the U.S. for a limited trial.
The efforts of Miami consumers have now paid off, as the Chicken Big Mac has expanded nationwide after two years. The updated version of the classic Big Mac will be available on participating Mickey D’s menus nationwide on October 10.
Made with special sauce, lettuce, cheese, and pickles on a sesame seed bun, the Chicken Big Mac is much like its beef counterpart. However, instead of two hamburger patties, there are two tempura-battered chicken patties—and no onions.
It’s also crucial to remember that the McChicken and McCrispy sandwiches use different chicken patties than the Chicken Big Mac. Similar to how the McNuggets are prepared, the new Big Mac is made using tempura-battered chicken.
I Tried The Chicken Big Mac First
Before it was formally put on menus, I sampled Mickey D’s new Chicken Big Mac at its Chicago headquarters. The new chicken sandwich resembles the original Big Mac, with two crispy, fried chicken patties instead of burgers.
I can reassure you that the tempura-battered chicken patties are juicy and tender, despite some people’s concerns that they would be dry. Furthermore, nothing can be dry when covered in Big Mac sauce. If you enjoy the Chicken McNuggets, you’ll likely enjoy the new Big Mac because the patties taste and feel much like the nuggets.
Unlike the original burger, the sandwich does not have onions, but I doubt you notice a difference. The only thing missing is the pungent onion flavor; the lettuce, pickles, and chicken patties provide enough crunch. Additionally, if you’re a huge fan of McDonald’s onions, you can always add them to your Chicken Big Mac.
When given the option between a hamburger and a chicken sandwich, I’ll always choose the beef, which may be why I didn’t find the Chicken Big Mac as tasty as the classic burger. However, if you’re a fan of chicken sandwiches, you simply cannot go wrong with the crispy Chicken Big Mac coated in cheese and special sauce, served on a warm, toasted bun with pickles and lettuce on top.
There’s just one question left as we head to McDonald’s to sample the new meal. Is the Big Mac Chicken a Big Mac? You have to make the final decision after an EU court said no.
